Cam Cleats

Cam Cleats

These are great for sailing, boating, canoeing, etc. Anytime you have a lot of ropes for securing things to cleats but need a way to make quick adjustments. These things cost $10-$20 online (plus shipping). Using this model, all you need are some 1/8" nuts/bolts/washers and/or screws. Instructions These have not been tested or printed at all yet. There are a few known problems: 1) there is no spring action, so they will only lock on a rope using its own tension. 2) two hands may be required to make them lock (with one hand holding the rope down and a thumb applying pressure with the cleats against the rope. 3) they won't be as strong and durable as commercial cam cleats, so they shouldn't be used for life-critical applications. At this point, they are just a fun project for experimentation. 4) I didn't use precise measurements for the bolt cavities on the bottom of the base, so those could be improved.
