CamJam Edukit #3 Frame

thingiverse

Minified version of the default CamJam EduKit #3 robot car, which is extendable with extra parts and components. Developed for the Bachelor of Computer Science first year course on robotics. In 2017 sixty of these robots were build and used. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.15 or 0.20 Infill: 20% Notes: Resolution can also be 0.25 and infill is tested on 10%. But it looks better on suggested values. Post-Printing Preparing the Car body There is a little bit of printing support in the car body to help stable printing. The three thin connected parts on the bottom of the frame should be removed before assembly. This can be done with a small (pre-heated) knife. Assemble the body To assemble you will need several nuts and bolts. We use four 4x12mm bolts to assemble the body. If you also want to assemble the extra's, you will sometimes need 4x16mm bolts. The default frame consists out of: 1_lightsensor_single 1_medtcar_body 1_tail_wheel 1_pi_breadboard We provided an assembly video to help the building proces. How I Designed This OpenScad The design is created in OpenScad, an open source coding based, 3D design program. This makes the design highly adjustable. Education goals Programming Challenges We used the robot cars to challenge students into programming with Python. We designed four challenges which use the sensors in different combinations. the challenges are based on 'real' developments in the field of autonomous cars: Navigation (follow a line to get from A to B; is default challenge for camjam) Google car (drive autonomously through a model-city without bumping into pedestrians or lanterns) Merry-go-round (drive around an oval track within a specific timeframe) Find the bright-spot (Create a search robot which can find a white spot on a dark floor) Pimp your ride The default robot car can be used to perform all the given challenges, but it's always nice to have an unique, optimised car. By clearing challenges, students receive virtual money to buy extra's. These extra's are also available and are: Backpack (A module on the back of the car which can hold a custom 5volt battery pack) Spoiler (A car can only go fast with a spoiler right?) Planetail (Fly like a bird and convert your car to a driving plane) Police lights (Add police lights and you will be noticed. This extra also creates an extra challenge, because students have to program it themselves. This is not provided in the camjam #3 set. You will need a red and blue 5mm led, 220Ohm resistor and some wiring)
