Pollen from canelo/Winter’s bark (Drimys winteri, Winteraceae). This pollen type is a tetrad - four individual grains stuck together in a rough pyramid. These specimens have become squashed over time. Drimys winteri is native to the temperate rainforests of Chile and Argentina, and for many years its bark was used to prevent sailors getting scurvy. Technical description of Drimys pollen, from PalDat (Halbritter, 2016): medium-sized, heteropolar, tetrahedral tetrads of oblate monads which are ulcerate with a reticulate exine.
