Car Panel Gap Gauge Tool

Car Panel Gap Gauge Tool

prusaprinters

This is a tool to aid in setting panel gaps when fitting car doors, bonnet/hood or boot/trunk and utilises round magnets to hold the tool in place.

The STL model files here use either 10x3mm or 12x5mm (up to 12.5x5mm) round magnets for a range of panel gaps from 3mm to 7mm, incremented by 0.25mm (If you want a 3/16" gap, use the 4.75mm model) and each tool has the dimension printed within the design for easy identification. Note that the handle part of the tool is the same width as the main gap gauge part so you can use it for gapping in areas which do not have a flat panel either side of the gap (see attached photos).

The hole diameters in the designs are actually set to 10.5x3.5mm & 12.7x5.5mm to make it easier to insert and glue the magnet in place (a single drop of CA glue will do it), and have the magnets recessed into the tool slightly.

Disclaimer : The dimensional accuracy of the gauge part of this tool will depend on your 3D printer. My printer for example, printed 5.6mm for the 5.5mm design - but it is still fit for purpose.
