Carl Goldberg Cub Cowl & Engine

This is a cowl and dummy engine set for the Carl Goldberg Anniversary Edition Cub. It is approximately 1 to 5.5 scale. I guarantee it to far superior in quality and style compared to the original ABS cowl and dummy engine. It matches the OEM cowl perfectly in size and shape but has a few additional scale details. It will stand up to glow fuel without degradation if made from PETG. The mounting edges are extra thick and angled to match the fuselage sides. PDF exploded assembly drawings now included. The pictures show mine installed on a stock 25 year old CG Cub. Printed in white PETG and black PLA. Unpainted, unsanded, unmodified in any way. I removed the parts from the printer, removed the printing supports from the cowl, glued the dummy engine together, and attached it the the Cub. After dozens of flights it’s still perfect. A definite win compared to the OEM cowl. Parts of the dummy engine are a remix of the engine from: https://www.thingiverse.com/marencak/designs https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4587824 His was a different scale. He did not provide a cowl and his eyebrow (cover plate) was open on the back end. I also redid the intake and exhaust pipes to better fit the Goldberg Cub. (If all you need is the 1/5 scale dummy engine you can still get his version there.) If you wish to get just my 1/5.5 scale engine remix without the cowl, it is available here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/carl-goldberg-cub-dummy-engine I have supplied three versions of the cowl: 1. ELEC, with mounting provisions for a dummy engine on both sides. 2. ICE, with mounting provisions for a dummy engine on the left side only and a cutout on the right for an internal combustion engine cylinder head. 3. BLANK, with no cut-outs or mounting provisions for a dummy engine on either side. No mounting holes are provided. Since this is likely a replacement cowl you probably already have mounting hole locations to either re-use or avoid. An optional filler piece is included for the area behind the cylinder head on the ICE version. The cut-out for the cylinder head in the ICE version is essentially the same size as the cutout for the RH dummy engine on the ELEC version. It should be more than adequate for the largest engine size. Mine was installed around a Saito FA-65. Clearance between the dummy engines inside the cowl for the ELEC version is 47mm. An additional ELEC version with a 60mm Clearance is now provided. Shortened dummy engine parts are provided to compensate for the increased cowl clearance. For the 60mm electric cowl use STLs with the 60mm suffix. For gas or glow engines I suggest PETG for the cowl. Painting is optional if PETG is used. The dummy engines can be made from PLA and painted if desired. The dummy engines can be assembled with epoxy or CA. Attachment to the cowl can be with similar adhesive or fasteners. Use the exhaust manifold to assist in locating the engine. The engine base should be low and to the rear of the mounting surface in the cowl. There is excess clearance in front of the RH dummy engine but this is similar to the real Cub. Pushrod tubes are not included. 2 mm Aluminum tubing from K&S cut to 39 mm long works nicely. Revised 2021-08-11: Some dummy engine STLs updated for improved quality and decreased file size. Revised 2021-10-25: Added "CG_AE_CUB_COWL_ELEC_60mm.stl" which has extra clearance for 60mm diameter electric motors. Revised 2021-10-27: Added dummy engine STLs for a shortened engine to go with the 60mm electric cowl. Revised 2021-10-28: Reloaded 60mm dummy engine STLs. Originals were cm based instead of mm. Revised 2022-10-17: Added PDF assembly drawings Revised 2023-08-18: Updated BLANK and ICE assembly drawings to correct some minor errors.
