First id like to say this was a great challenge due to really having to think out of the box, as there is only so many solutions to this objective. I enjoy the problem solving ones more than just the design. I have created this concept of the "Smart Mop" to link in with the casabella branding (colour & feel). The mop has a modern look about it but uses the good old fashioned string mop head. The mop is made up of ABS moulded plastic parts, steel tubing & rod and some pins and screws. I have attempted to make the construction and how the mop is used as simple as possible. The mop head is drained by being compressed by a roller which is located on the inside of the shaped casing at the bottom of the mop. When the user forces the handle towards the floor, this then pushes the roller forward and down to compress the mop head strings. The roller will hit a stop point, as the user continues to rotate the handle the mop head is then pulled back through the roller and drained. As the user returns the handle to its original position the roller releases the mop head and allows the mop head to be pushed out and ready for use. Main costs will be taken up by tooling for the ABS parts - but in turn part price will be cheap and also labour if tooling and construction is done in the far east. Approx tooling cost (off the top of my head) - Roller casing - $8,000 - $10,000 Casing cap - $6,000 Handle - $5,000 - $8,000 Top Handle - $3,000 Roller holder - $3,000 Handle rod cover - $1,000 everything else is off the shelf product. I hope you like the design and please give me your feed back. Thanks
