SANTO DOMINGO Museo de las Casas Reales is one of the most frequented by tourists in the city of Santo Domingo, is located in the cradle of Dominican history, the Colonial Zone. The Museo de las Casas Reales was created by King Ferdinand of Aragon on 5 October 1511. Earlier in the colonial period (XVI-XVII century), this building was used as the Royal Court, which was the first court of New World. It was also used as a residence of the Governors and General Captains from the same era. This building has served as home to some of the characters through the years. Even it hosted the School of Fine Arts, has also served as shelter for some official entities. In 1976 it was declared as Museo de las Casas Reales during the visit by Dominican Republic King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
