A standard 2x4 interior wall with half inch drywall on each side is 4.5 inches. This thing goes into a circular hole cut in the wall. Drill a small pilot hole very straight through the entire wall first to get the two holes lined up. Print two of these things and insert one from each side. Put the first one in place and securely glue it to the surface of the wall. After the glue dries insert the second one from the other side of the wall, rotate so the supports on the sides are evenly spaced when they mesh. Glue the inner faces of all supports and glue the second half firmly to the wall. The inner hole is 5 inches across, plenty big enough for any of our cats.
