The main problems with DIY face masks are: Breathability, Filtering efficacy, and a proper fit to avoid leaks. One surprisingly simple and effective solution is the one proposed by Dr. Wiles (see Sources). It is easy to make, and takes any cloth/filtering material of your choice. It has been approved "For Community Use" by the NIH. My remix removes the posts and the elastic catch, making it flat and very thin. I use 7 inch rubber bands and a back strap (see Sources) to keep everything in place. Since I am so bad at sewing, I figured it would be useful to have a sewing pattern to cut the cloth and the filter material. The OpenScad script to get the sewing pattern from the mask is included.
