Cell Phone to Tripod Adapter

thingiverse

This is a camera tripod adapter for a cell phone. It works well for my phone, an Avid 589, held in place by rubber bands (because of aging, use preferably silicon rubber, not latex), The trigger button on the phone is exposed and easy to reach/touch. The base is slightly tricky. One stl file has the adapter attached to the base, one does not. Your choice. It was more conservative of filament to hold the base on with clamps or rubber bands during gluing. I glued the base on with model cement. In addition, the screw hole did not print well at these sizes so the 1/4-20 screw threads were chased with a 1/4-20 tap after printing, seems OK, no torn threads. Since different cell phones come in slightly different sizes, I have supplied the Openscad program (sadly without explanations, i.e. I wasn't terribly organized) for possible size adjustment. Please note the orientation of the base is at an angle, not vertical. This is intentional, it makes document photos easier and points the camera downward slightly, making normal use a little easier and more natural. :) With so many similar builds on Thingiverse, I hope someone tries mine, if only for the feedback, it was a fun project and I was extremely happy with the result... (despite some three rather painful iterations) :) A couple of side notes, one, when attaching the base, make sure it protrudes below/beyond the frame to avoid interference with your tripod. And two, because of the modular design, a quick release base can be substituted to snap directly into your tripod should your tripod be equipped with one! The thread was made on Tinkercad and was too binding/boogered without chasing. :)
