I made some key modifications to the motor mount, allowing me to crank the Z axis all the way up without clipping against the gantry and also took care of centering the cable. To keep everything flat, I opted for a raft, but feel free to make your own choice - I've got my Gcode file right here if you want to run it. Check out the pics: I managed to push the Z axis all the way up into the gantry.
