The tube is placed on the jig with a robot and the pencil probes are released to come into contact with the tube and a calculation is done between the 3 inside probes and the 3 outside probes to give you the inside and outside diameter within ±0.007mm. The holes and marks allow for a quick setup change so that the different size tubes can be measured.
