Liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) is is a widely applied and low-cost inspection method used to locate surface-breaking defects in non-porous metals. Attach a circular reservoir with liquid penetrant along the chain run that allows the chain to enter and exit being soaked into the liquid, then detect any fatigue crack or surface defects.Inspection is performed under ultraviolet or white light, depending upon the type of dye used - fluorescent or nonfluorescent (visible), hence the two lamps at the sides of the chain.
