Charlotte's Web Decoration

thingiverse

This is a simple print I designed for a library's halloween decorations. There's a secret message hidden inside, only clue I give the kids is that it is from Charlotte's Web. Though it is probably easy to tell what it is from the 3D file, I've had no kids, or even parents, successfully figure it out yet from the printed web. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: your choice Infill: doesn't matter Notes: Took about 17min on Low Resolution at given size (~88x85x1.65mm) for me, 1hr at max size for my printer (~146x143x2.76mm). I made the strands fairly thick to help kid-proof them and make it easier to stick to the build plate and remove from the build plate. I'd recommend printing it out larger in fact, but if you print it smaller than given size probably will have some trouble and need a raft. Recommend printing in Glow-in-the-Dark or translucent colorless PLA for best appearance. How I Designed This I sketched out a spider's web based off of several pictures of real spiders' webs in Photoshop, careful to make sure all strands are reasonably thick, secret message a darker grey. Then imported it into Shapeway's 2D to 3D converter.
