This is the third iteration of my Charon project, and the first I am finally comfortable bringing to GrabCAD. This is a modular system for constructing AR-15 lower receivers. There are a total of 36 unique combinations of receivers possible with the included parts. They are all configured and oriented for direct printing using an FDM, SLA, or SLS rapid prototyping machine, and while you are free to mill these out of any material you'd like, be warned that there are a LOT of curves, and it would be quite heavy once complete on top of having entirely too much reinforcement for a metal receiver. I highly recommend the slicing program Cura, and printing with as fine a layer height as you can to preserve through holes. All other print options are left up to the user and their individual printer. The previous version (0.2b) has been printed, assembled and tested with live ammunition. No breakages were found, nor were any evident signs of stress present after 96 rounds of 5.56. The video attached to this shows four rounds of this testing from a rest. Files are supplied in SLDPRT, STEP and STL formats so that anyone with almost any CAD program can modify the files. They are released as open source with the only caveat being that modified files be renamed so that cross version confusion doesn't happen. If you do decide to print them, I would very much like pictures of any print failures, assembly issues or testing failures you might have, as well as nice pictures of the finished product. NOTE: Slic3r v0.98 has an issue with the trigger pin hole on all the models. It will fill it in. V0.99 does not have the issue. Please make sure your slicing software is up to date.
