Disclaimer: If you blow up your device or eyes using this cap I'm not accountable for any loss or damage. Please remember the staring at or pointing cameras at the sun is dangerous.

I created a lens cap holder for my American Paper Optics Solar Eclipse Glasses. This should allow me to use my super cheap telescopic lens to take pictures of the solar eclipse.

I'm using the 12x Zoom Telephoto lens that came from the kit from Apexel on Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1INMPI

I looked at a few of the other cheap 12x Zoom Telephoto clip on lenses from Amazon and I think a lot of them are the same telephoto lense brand, as they have the red "trim" with the same markings. The inside diameter of the cap is 35mm, so if your lens is that size it should work.

I'm using Eclipse Glasses from APO (the width is 37mm x ..5mm depth); https://www.eclipseglasses.com/collections/eclipse-glasses-stock/products/stock-eclipse-glasses

American Paper Optic paper glasses are one of the most popular brands. Companies like Lowes, Home Depot, Kroger etc are/were selling them. Check inside the arm and they should say the manufacture. Really any glasses that are equal or less them 37mm x 1mm should be fine.

Edit: Video of me testing the Camera with the lens adapter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqfqABAV-60

Edit 2: American Paper Optics also sells paper glasses for Christmas that ate the same width as the eclipse frames, so the lense adapter works for those too. They sell them in Lowe's and Home Depot and they make lights look like different Christmas items. I've included an image of the star and raindeer glasses.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Wanhao

Printer:

Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.2

Infill:

20%

Notes:

My support pillar resolution is 1mm for the gap where the glasses slid into the cap.

Post-Printing

I used an X-acto knife to get out the supports, but you could use a jewelers flat tip or something else little small and strong to remove them. I would suggest you make sure the gap is as smooth as possible before you slide your glasses through them, because you don't want the lenses to rip or tear.

Category: Camera
