I really liked the chef's slide rule created by tux2603 so much so that I printed it a half dozen times trying to get it perfect since it was for my wife. Everything about the original printed fine for me except those numbers on the top. I finally got them dialed in enough to my liking but I'm not neuro surgeon with my dexterity so painting them always came out a horrible mess. So I pulled the STL's in Fusion360 and inverted them from being 0.4mm proud on the top layer to an inverted or sunken 1.0mm. This accomplished two things for me; first it allowed me to flip the two inserts over and print them face down. This allowed the face the user (my wife in this case) to have the PEI mirror smooth face facing out so it looked best. The second thing it allowed for was now I could fill the holes how I saw fit.

My original plan was to do what I've done in the past with garage gauges and such and that was to heat a crayon and paint it into the hole and wipe off the excess. This usually produces a decent enough fill but can be tedious to cleanup the excess if you have have a textured print surface. Before doing this I decided to grab some acrylic hobby paint and 26ga hobby syringe (they are blunt tipped) and inject each number with paint. I printed this in PLA since it's reasonably food/people safe for the kitchen and any gorilla hand painting mistakes I made wiped up with some acetone and a paper towel from the surface since the paint sat lower the the top layer. I think it came out well enough and my biggest grip doing it this was was sometimes the walls of the recessed holes may have had gaps and that let some paint bleed into the infill. If I printed again the easy fix for this would be make the insert solid. It's small enough it wouldn't use a crazy amount of material. I hope this helps someone else out and big thanks to tux2603 for designing this!
