WIKIPEDIA : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheomseongdae Blog : https://dustofcosmos.blogspot.com Located in Gyeongju, South Korea, Cheomseongdae is an ancient astronomical observatory that continues to inspire awe and curiosity today. Translating to "star-gazing tower" in Korean, Cheomseongdae holds a special place in history as the oldest surviving astronomical observatory not only in Asia but possibly even the world. Constructed during the 7th century in the kingdom of Silla, whose capital was Seorabeol and is now present-day Gyeongju, this magnificent structure has stood the test of time. On December 20, 1962, Cheomseongdae was officially designated as South Korea's 31st national treasure. Its influence can be seen in other notable observatories that followed its design, including a Japanese observatory built in 675 and Duke Zhou's observatory in China constructed in 723.
