Chess Space Ship Pawn

Thingiverse has designs for one of the most diverse Space Ship fleets in "existence". It also houses one of the largest collections of unique themeatic Chess set collections (380+ and counting). This project combines the two for a "Space Ship Theme Chess Set". This is the first piece and represents an intrasystem short hop supply tanker. I hope that others might pick up on this and contribute their own ship designs (see below). Maybe even form a "collection" of space ship inspired chess pieces. If you already have a space ship design then perhaps you might add a tag to include it in this group. If you would like to contribute to this collection here are some Guildelines: Make sure you upload your design (or add this tag to your existing project) with the following exact text in the "TAGS" field: "Chess_Space_Ship_Theme". That way we can all find all of the pieces that anyone contributes for this theme by searching for that Tag. Possible "homage" designs might include a separate theme dedicated to some famous Sy-Fi ships including (TAG Chess_Space_ship_Sy_Fi_theme), the following: Forbidden planet saucer Halo, both sides Star Trek TNG (and Original shuttles) Bolo Orbital with AntiGrav Sled or ODS Flash Gordon's original ship Battlestar Galactica both series Lost in space Original space movie with musical theme by that famous guy... Ship "From earth to the Moon" Others? Here are the design parameters if you would like to contribute a NEW design to a basic set. There can be as many designs for each pieces as there are contributors, so ultimately people can assemble peices from different contributors to create their favorite chess set. I'll update the list in this project with anyone's ideas, suggestions, ships for the Sy-Fi movie theme collection etc... Design Parameters: Each piece should resemble some kind of space ship. Try to Keep the lines simple and watch out for overhangs. You may want to put each piece on a platform with rounded edges (like a pedestle, see this pawn). Initial ideas: Pawn - Tanker/resupply ship, intrasystem short hops; shuttle Knight - Armed, possibly Bolo Series XXX+ Bishop - Interstellar, possbily FTL drive section Queen - Sleeker lines, Halo covenant? Rook/Castle - Orbital Drop ship (ODS)/orbital build platform King - Maybe from ship in the Riddick series Tips and tricks: Drill out base or desing with a void space to fill with Wood's metal (low melting point metal), for weighting the pieces (or magnet). Give an acetone vapor bath to smooth surfaces then make a latex rubber casting mold for two part plastic (MicroMark or Polytek). Cast pieces in colored Plastic or even as cold cast metal using metal powders (I did aluminum and copper). Use surface opalescent pigments for cast plastic parts to give a ship the titanium "Halo Covenant" look This piece was designed in trueSpace CAD and printed in ABS from Octave, normal, 2 layer surface and 2 layer raft on an Up!3D. Instructions Download, scale and print. Add wieght or a rare earth magent to base. I included the dxf for anyone who wants to CNC the part.
