Child Resistant Stove Knob Covers

I originally purchased hinged stove knob covers at a big box store several years ago. Since then I kept going back to the store and buying new ones every few months because the hinges kept breaking and I wanted to keep the stove safe from my kids. At about $20 per set, these were about $5 a piece. After doing some testing, I came to the conclusion that the ones sold at big box store were designed to fail so that you would go buy new ones. Even with mild use, the plastic gets brittle and completely falls apart after just several months, they must be using some additive or a process that causes it to become brittle This is a big problem for me because, with kids, I don't always get a chance to run out and get new ones and having ones that constantly break is somewhat of a safety issue Anyway, here is my answer to their manufacturing problem This is a simpler design that requires adult dexterity to use. You need one hand to hold the base with at least two fingers and another hand to hold just the outside brim to pull out the cylinder. If you just pull on the knob, it will pull off the knob and gas won't come on anyway. Putting the top back on is easy to do with one hand I still have one of these plugged in next to the stove just in case: https://amzn.to/2klIFSE They're kind of nice because they just plug into an outlet and will let you know if you ever have a gas leak or a burner that's not closed all the way and isn't lit. It's really sensitive and will go off if a pot boils over and burner goes out or even if you're using some petroleum based aerosol can next to it These are child resistant and not child proof (although I feel like they are much better than design I used to buy) use at your own risk, i'm not responsible, etc etc etc As always, attached are the original sketchup file in case you need to make the bottom hole bigger or smaller or if you want to add anything.
