This is a printable 3d model of the brain of a Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) based on an MRI scan of a real chimpanzee brain made available through the online brain catalog http://braincatalogue.org/Chimpanzee Print Settings Printer: Wanhao Duplicator 4S Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 layer height Infill: 20% Notes: Have not yet printed this but these are settings that have worked well for similar models I've made with the same workflow. How I Designed This MRI to stl workflow The original files are a stack of images from an MRI scan. The downloaded MRi data file comes as an .nii native format from the Brain Catalogue website (http://braincatalogue.org/Chimpanzee). This filetype can be opened in NIH Image (https://imagej.nih.gov/nih-image/), then converted to an image sequence. Install and use the Volume viewer plugin (https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/plugins/volume-viewer.html) display as a surface (threshold at about 50 usually works well to get rid of artifacts) and then Export Surfaces as binary stl. There will be some cleanup necessary - I used Rhino 3D v 5 to get rid of extraneous extra bits and the Meshmixer repair stl commands to fix inverted normals until we arrive at this model. I have not printed it yet but it should be printable with a raft and supports.
