Christ Church Gate at Canterbury Cathedral is a Grade I listed Norman building, was analysed, and recorded in some detail by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 2009, prior to its restoration. This medieval gate construction began in  1517 (Hoc opus constructum est anno Domini millesimo Quingentesimo [decimo] septimo) to celebrate the marriage of Arthur, Prince of Wales (eldest son of King Henry VII) to Catherine of Aragon and was completed around 1520. It forms the main entrance into Canterbury cathedral precincts and is one of Canterbury’s most recognisable, celebrated and photographed buildings.
