Cigarette Rolling Box

A working tested rolling box for cigarettes. Use vinyl synthetic leather for the fabric. ( I got the black microdot leather from walmart's fabric area. You'll also need a 3/4 in wide 1/8 inch thick aluminum barstock )from any hardware store. A wooden dowel. A bit of glue. Finally you need 6 small screws. (Tapered head so you can countersink them to sit flush) Print 2 of the sides and ends and one endcap and bottom plate. (no supports, some infill but print settings don't matter much this is super forgiving) Glue the sides on to the bottom plate first. The thicker section under the slide cutout should be towards the bottom plate. (Use your ends to ensure the correct spacing of the sides but DONT GLUE THEM only glue the sides at this time.) Cut your aluminum rod to length (the length of the bottom plate plus half an inch for the endcap) Drill holes in the aluminum rod. Measure half the thickness of the dowel and mark that from the side of on aluminum bars. Also mark half the thickness plus a little (1/8 or less) from the end of the bar. Drill a hole on the intersection of that mark. You want the dowel to sit flush with the bottom of the aluminum bar. Once you have drilled and countersunk both rods, cut your dowel to length, (a hair shorter than the width of the bottom plate) Mark and drill the center of your dowel on both ends. Screw the dowel to the aluminum bars with a bit of glue on the threads and screw them tight and then back off a n 8th or a quarter of a turn) The head of the screw should be flush or below the outer surface of the aluminum rods or they will bind. Once you have both bars attached to the dowel and have ensured the dowel can rotate freely (the screws should turn with the dowel) then slide the whole assembly into the sides. If this slides freely you are ready to glue the ends on. Make sure to keep any glue clear of moving parts. Glue the bars into the endcap. Cut your fabric to size. (It should be exactly as wide as the box is wide but the length should be about 2 inches longer than the box.) Cut two more aluminum bars as long as the inner part of the box is wide. Drill 2 equally spaced , countersunk holes in each bar. Place one end of the fabric leather side up in the end of the box furthest from the endcap. Make sure it is flush with the end of the interior of the box and is straight. Place one of the drilled aluminum bars over the fabric and screw it down to the bottom plate as straight as possible (seriously measure this so it's as straight as you can get it). Pass the fabric over the wooden dowel and affix the other side the same way. Pull the slide mechanism forward about a quarter of an inch. Push the slack fabric into the space below the dowel before the first part of the ramp on the bottom plate. This is where tobacco gets loaded. The more slack in the fabric the thicker the cigar or cigarette. Place your paper on the raised surface of the bottom eplate gum side facing up and towards the endcap. Wet the gum and pull the lever straight back. Check your cigar/ciggarette, if it is too thick pull unscrew one of the bars and shorten the fabric a bit until you reach your desired size. (if someone wants to make a derivative that spools the excess fabric onto a ratcheting dowel then you can have adjustable sized cigars) The pull of the cigarette is determined by how much tobacco you pack into the cigar or cigarette. If you want to roll with filters just add the filter on either end of the pocket where you place the tobacco. (Need to have the rolling machine sized to fit your filters though) That's all folks. For those who have a cnc machine I have included the fusion 360 files so you can generate your own toolpaths. My cnc is pretty beefy so you probably wanna slow things down for hobby level cnc machines.
