Circular Panel Knotwork

Circular Panel Knotwork

Carved in 1997 to 2014. This is a traditionally hand-carved celtic circular knotwork panel, based on an illusminated manuscript design in the Book of Kells. I started this in 1997 - the first stone-carving project I undertook after being shown the principals of decorative stone-carving by Barry Grove while I was working as a student volunteer for the University of York on the Tarbat Discovery Program archaeological training dig in Portmahomack. This is admittedly a really awful model - the centreing is apalling and the detail is very poor. Strictly speaking the carving is not yet finished. I periodically do a little bit more on it, when I am in the right mood.
