Hello my name is Audrey Clark and I am an 11 year old fifth grader from California. I entered this competition because I want to be an aerospace engineer for NASA when I grow up. I thought it would be good to get a head start on my career. This lunar sampler drum features a hydraulic powered drill. There are two syringes featured on this design that are connected to the "claw". When you pull up on the handle of the syringe (not connected to the claw), the claw (connected to the drill) opens its "mouth" lowering the drill onto the lunar surface. To pull the drill upwards, you push down on the syringe not connected to the claw. It is a light weight drum made out of a non ferrous metal such as aluminum.
