I recommend to buy coat hangers instead of making yourself whenever suitable. Unfortunately I have never seen a fully satisfactory coat hanger in the nearest store. For example maximum width of coat hangers I have seen on sale is 42cm which is a bit smaller then my clothes. So here is coat hanger design which could be changed any way you like. There are two hook designs (choose the one you like better), corners are the same for both. To change the width you need to re-calculate beams lengths only. The lengths are calculated automatically and printed to console when you load a hook script in OpenSCAD. For the things on photo full width is 45cm, upper beams length is 187.8mm and 172.9mm for the first and second hook designs respectively and the lower beam length is 370mm in both cases. I used regular Ø16mm PVC tube for beams but the design could be easily changed to Ø20mm or whatever. The thing you probably need to pay the most attention is the tube inner diameter because it is not standardized well so you may need to adjust it to the real size of a tube you have. Parameters common to all details are located in common.scad file. Update 2/7: the second hook design upgraded to have tapering tip - somewhat less plastic more aesthetic. Update 3/6: combined the first and second designs into the third. Update 3/10: upgraded the first hook design for deeper/safer grab. Update 3/18: additional version of corners with shoulder pads.
