This coat of arms of D. Manuel is located above the entry portal in the Guard House of the Castle of Montemor-o-Novo, near the main door of the village - also known as the Door of the Clock or Santarém. With representation of the national coat of arms composed of five shields, surrounded by seven castles and on each side, the armillary sphere, symbol of D. Manuel I, as a symbol of the maritime expansion of the Kingdom of Portugal. This piece was produced in marble, in high relief, and still has traces of an inscription in Gothic letter whose reading is impossible today due to the erosion due to exposure to the exterior conditions that degraded the stone.
