Coffee Table 2

This was my second attempt at designing contemporary coffee tables while I was playing around with these types of designs around January or so. Unlike the first one, this one is a solid part that doesn't have any moving or separate parts. It essentially is just a digital sculpture, as I never got around to figuring out how I would actually put it together. I still think it looks nice, though I just can't decide which one I like better: the natural dark wood, or laminate white. BTW- The last picture is with the Wire Connector Vase that I have on here that no one seems to like. Doesn't look that bad now does it? NOTE on the books used in the renders: The set of books by Edward Tufte were given to me by my aunt for Christmas 2007. They are incredible illustrative books which highlight primarily the history of illustrating qualitative and quantitative data throughout the ages. Very technical in some regards, but also filled with some very interesting and beautiful imagery which show how everyday folks to highly skilled professionals have been able to successfully and beautifully graphically depict complex information. One example found in "Visual Explanations" is of the historic "cyclogram" chart of the Salyut 6 space flight. On the other, these books ("Visual Explanations" again in particular) also tragically illustrate how there is often a disconnect between highly skilled engineers and the folks they are trying to relate very complicated data to (the project managers) and how that seemingly trivial inability can sometimes have dire consequences, as was the case with the unfortunate challenger disaster of 1984. Highly recommended to every designer and engineer and anyone else interested in a bit of a unique and fascinating read.
