I recently added a Cohesion 3D Mini motion controller to my Chinese K40 laser cutter engraving machine. This is possibly the best upgrade for your K40 and it's only about $100 US. You can buy one at: www.cohesion3d.com A great benefit of the C3D board is the ability to add an LCD display; this is designed to be a mounting "cabinet" for a RepRap Discount/Sainsmart 12864 LCD panel. I designed this to allow for a simple, damage-free installation of the LCD and added a space for a digital temperature meter as well to monitor your coolant temperature. I printed this on my UM3E using PLA+ at .15mm, 40mm/sec with support and brim. It took about 15 hours to print, top-side up with 2 colors. Please experiment with layer height and speed and share your results. The first 3 files are available for both single and dual extruder printers. The 4th file is the mounting clip. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 3 Extended Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .15 mm Infill: 80-100% Notes: Printing topside-up will result in better results for dual extrusion, 2-color printing as the letters are "raised" about .04 mm above the cabinet's surface.
