Coiled Vase

Coiled Vase

cults3d

A vase that looks (to me, at least) a little like a coiled rope; hence the name. This is a sister model of my Twister Vase, using the same maths base. The faceted model is the same as the hi-definition one; but with the polygon-count turned right down, I did this while experimenting with rendering speeds and liked the result enough that I kept and printed it. These are intended for printing in vase mode; the thicker the nozzle, the better. In my photos everything is printed with a 0.8mm nozzle Sorry for the size of the hi-def STL file, it's needed to avoid surface facets when scaling up. The deliberately faceted version is much more download/slicer friendly. The shape is purely mathematical, generated by a deceptively simple piece of SCAD code creating intersecting and overlapping spheres rising and spiralling out from a central axis. I designed these vases on a whim; but was really pleased with the results. For reference the hi-def model took 9 hours to render on my CoreI7 system, and at one point had 11Gb+ of ram reserved.
