Realistic penny coin as a coaster

This is a replica of an Australian Penny coin for use as a coaster. The diameter is 10.1 cm (3.9 inches). The back side is flat with 3 round insets with 10 mm (0.4 inches) diameter each. You can glue some rubber into the insets to make the coaster sit on the table in a stable way. However, the coasters of course also work without the rubber support.

The Australian coins "One penny" were minted between 1911 and 1936.

You can use any filament color which you like for the Penny coaster. The original color of the used Penny coin is a dark brown. The original unused Penny coins had a copper color which I have used for the photos.

If you do not want to glue rubber into the Penny coin, please use the model "Penny_coin_no_holes_01.stl".

Print Settings

Printer:

FLSUN Super Racer

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.15 - 0.2 mm layer height

Infill:

20 %

Filament:
Any Any filament your printer can handle
Any

Notes:

Let the back side of the coin with the 3 holes lay on the build surface of your printer.
For Cura slicer you can set the "Infill" -> "Minimum Infill Area" to 4000.0 mm2 to create a clean coin base without strange infill spots for the top letters.
Post-Printing

Glue round rubber or foam sheets (optional)

You may want to glue 3 round 10 mm (0.4 inches) rubber or foam sheets with 2.5 mm thickness to the bottom holes. This will make the coaster sit on the table in a stable way.

How I Designed This

Coin design

The coin was designed with Blender. I have designed the flat base coin first. Using a reference photo I have extruded points to match the text and ornaments on the top surface.

Category: Coins & Badges
