Landstown High School Governor’s STEM & Technology AcademyAdvising Instructor - Jennifer Renne My submission to the Extreme Redesign Challenge is a two piece coin sorter. This device gives someone the means to effectively and inexpensively separate dimes, pennies, nickels, and quarters. To use the device, you simply have to insert one of the four accepted coins into the slot on the front of the device. Said coin will slide down an internal tunnel until it reaches one of several holes on the floor of the tunnel. The coin will fall through the hole that it fits into and onto the second part of the sorter. The second part of the coin sorter is a tray that is used to collect the coins after they have been separated. After the coin falls from the hole, it will land in its designated stack. The tray can be removed my simply pulling it out via the handle positioned on the outside. Sorting through coins can be quite tedious, particularly separating coins of similar color. This device solves this by significantly decreasing the time it takes to separate the coins. It’s simple and easy to use, and saves precious time for more important tasks at hand.
