This combination square uses an innovative pinching mechanism to hold a flat ruler in place. The unique design is new and holds the ruler very tightly. Now you can have an inexpensive and accurate combination square.

The ruler I used is a 12" 1/8's and 1/16's black matte model from Taylor Tool Works here:

https://taytools.com/products/benchmark-tools%E2%84%A2-rigid-woodworking-rulers?variant=39754819502167

I moded David Budden's “#116 COMBINATION SQUARE” from here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/60ee4c200bee7be3926270cf/w/c1bf484c7407176308dd2a79/e/c6c56725ca592347939451aa

But the pinching mechanism and the knurled nut designs are my own.

Printing

It's best to print the “clamp screw” on it's side as this gives it way more strength. You may also want to print a raft for it as well. This makes for some cleanup for the screw threads but it's worth the effort for the added strength. Print at 100% infill too.

The main body need to be printed upright and have support under the clamp screw hole area

Make sure to file or sand the “clamp screw” really well to make mating with the knurled nut better and also the slots so the ruler slides easily in the groove. For the first few times putting the ruler in the body with the clamp screw make sure to go slowly and don't over tighten as you can easily break the screw. You will get a feel for how to use this with a few tries.

Just tighten the knurled nut until it holds the ruler tight enough. It's usually when the clamp screw is flush or a little below the surface on the ruler side.

Update: Sep. 12. 2020 - Version 2.0 - I just uploaded new files for this model that have a more robust size for the "clamp screw" and the “knurled nut”. You ‘ll need to download and print all three pieces as the body was changed with a larger hole size to accommodate the larger parts.

Also, if you like this model, check out my other models over here:

https://www.printables.com/social/130916-hendersons-handcrafts/models

Below are just few of my other models
