Do you have single-issue comic books that you want to put on your bookshelf, along with your hardcovers and trade paperbacks? The Comic Backstrip is the simple solution to get your favorite comics out of your longboxes and on your bookshelves, where they belong. This model uses OpenSCAD to allow customization of the size of the backstrip. You will need to tell the customizer the thickness, in mm, of your story collection. There is no simple equation to say what thickness a certain number of comics are. Some issues have more pages than others, have thicker stock of covers. For example, my 9 issue collection of Blackest Night is 22mm, while my 9 issue collection of Warren Ellis' Fell is only 16mm. The latter is the norm, as Blackest Night is made up of larger books. I used calipers to measure the thickness of the collections. Included with the script and part pieces is a sample 20mm backstrip. This size fits collections that range from 7 to 14 issues. This design includes a slot for labels. I design the labels in Photoshop, and print them at Walmart or CVS using their same-day 4x6 glossy photo prints.
