So, it turns out that cordless drill motors make excellent motors to drive larger robots around. The planetary gearbox gives lots of torque. These are mounts for the motor used in the Harbor Freight cordless drill Item #68239. These are often on sale for $15.99. These run great on a 12V battery, like the one you might put in your next robot. Instructions Buy the cordless drill from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/18-volt-cordless-38-drilldriver-with-keyless-chuck-68239.html There are instructions here on here to lock the clutch mechanism: http://www.wa4dsy.com/robot/drill-motor-hack Print some mounts (OpenSCAD included for any changes needed), get some wheels, and build a robot! The "nut keeper" included can be used to stop a standard nut from loosening if your wheel doesn't thread on directly (The screw in the end is reverse threaded).
