Corrosion Inspection is an expensive time consuming operation in any industry. Critical components can be corrosion mapped with various technologies in all manner of places. From oil rig legs, to water risers within tall buildings. Generally, and often, corrosion inspection is subject to some ambiguity in reference terms used for the resulting visual inspection. From “local corrosion” to “severe pitting” all means very little in a written word report, with poor compressed images. This is where CRP, Close Range Photogrammetry can help. With a technician onsite with a digital camera, he can take a number of overlapping images, and have them generated into a digital asset. Not only does this give the viewer anywhere in the world an accurate 3D model but allows the ability to actually conduct analysis, such as diameter, depth measurements, buckling analysis or FEA analysis.
