The joint links two rods with square or rectangular cross-sections by forming one rod end into a U-fork, which the other rod's end fits into. To prevent friction-induced strap opening, a cotter is inserted and a gib is used. A gib, with its rectangular cross-section and two lugs, has one tapered side that contacts the cotter's tapered side to maintain parallel edges in the slot. This design also prevents straps from opening by having the lugs press against the fork's outer surfaces.
