Use this design to weigh food items while you cook. Simply fill the gradient measuring cup to the appropriate level until you cover up the number of ounces you're trying to weigh, and then balance the scale out!! So simple, yet very handy! This can make it more fun for anyone to measure out food weights. This design isn't limited to food either! Put this into a classroom setting and teach kids about equal balances, Center of Gravity, summation of forces, etc... The device's operation is incredibly simple, and fairly accurate. Begin by supporting the beam assembly on the fulcrum of the base piece. You can slide the beam along the fulcrum in order to achieve a "zeroed" a.k.a. balanced state. Using this technique will allow you to put a tupperware or dish on the opposite side of the measuring cup while using this scale -- simply keep sliding the beam assembly along the fulcrum until you're balanced -- the beam will be flush to the top of the base piece once this is done. In the measuring cup, add water until you cover whatever number you wish -- this represents the amount of weight, in ounces, that will be needed on the other end of the balance. That's it! Very simple and effective! Instructions Be SURE to print the measuring cup with a solid base, the remainder of the cup can be 30% or less -- or in the least, slosh some acetone in the bottom so the gaps close... if you don't do this, water will leak out. You can either print the square beam, or buy a wood one from a home improvement/ craft store.
