This CR2032 holder was designed around two interlocking half-twist hex helices to provide an interesting look for this functional print. The inner tray slots hold twelve CR2032 batteries securely preventing the batteries from falling out, rattling around or touching. The cover twists over the tray to fully protect the batteries and is held closed by a small detent. Even though the walls are thin, the holder geometry should be strong enough to put in a pocket or throw in a bag.

Both the tray and cover are printed using spiral vase mode. This reduces filament usage and print time but most importantly for this application provides a smooth surface finish which is critical for the cover to slide over the tray properly.

In addition to the battery holder, I included models for a plain helix shell that turns out to be a really fun fidget toy. It prints using the same vase mode settings.

Print Settings:

Material: PLA

Nozzle: 0.4mm

Layer Height: 0.2mm

Line Width: 0.5mm <== Important

Perimeters: 1

Bottom Layers: 5

Infill: None

Supports: None

Bed Adhesion: Skirt

Spiral Vase: Enabled (Prusa Slicer setting)

Spiralize Outer Contour: Enabled (Cura setting)

Printing Orientation: Tray flat-side down, Lid top-side-down

Notes:

The ends are 1mm thick so require 5 bottom layers at 0.2mm layer height.

There are minor overhangs that may cause some printers trouble. The included g-code printed fine on an Ender 3 Pro without supports using Inland PLA+ white filament.
