CR6-SE Cooling Fan Duct

CR6-SE Cooling Fan Duct

Our favourite printer modifications are often those that make our printer more quiet. This one was inspired by someone observing that although the stock hotend cooling fan can be noticeably loud when installed, it is quite quiet when just hanging on the wires. I designed this duct to match the dimensions of the stock one, but with two small posts added to help hold the duct in the proper shape and posiiton when installed. Just poke the posts into the unused fan mounting holes. I also put a small silicone rubber washer under the head of each of the two fan mounting screws, just to hedge against those screws possibly carrying fan vibration to the finned body of the extruder. NOTE: I only print PLA, PETG and TPU on my machine, so I don't usually print any hotter than 245C. I am hoping that the TPU will hold up ok in this application. There is only a little over 1mm of clearance between the bottom of the duct and the top of the heatblock, so I will have to watch this for a while to see whether I have any issues. I did not measure dB SPL data, but I can say the stock fan is whisper quiet with this mod in place. Worth a try before investing in replacement fans, I would say.
