My wife is dutch. My kids are half-dutch. The Decemberists are from Portland. Whatever. I wanted to try my hand at something different so I turned the Crane Wife album art into an SVG file and tried to think of what kind of cool art I could 3D print from it. I arrived at this sun-catcher/dutch pottery monstrosity. If I had it to do over I would add a lip to the stand, and make the groove a touch deeper to ensure a good fit for the plaque. This iteration took some Gorilla Gel to make it work. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: Normal Infill: Light Notes: The brim was pulling up a bit, but ultimately the ultimaker handled the detail fine. Post-Printing Post Production After cleaning up the edges and smoothing things off, and gluing the base to the plaque I took this lovely stuff and filled in the gaps (like sun-catchers). The wider the gap the more I had to fiddle with the goop to make it work. Eventually I went over the whole kaboodle with a wet paintbrush to clean it up. That's when I realized I had made something that evoked thoughts of Dutch pottery. How I Designed This Simple Steps Grab the .jpg from wikipedia Open in Inkscape Trace the bitmap and fiddle with the live preview until I was happy. Invert (initial thought was to create a stamp) Crop Export to .svg Open in Tinkercad Create stand and background: https://tinkercad.com/things/iNuIumUvMdJ Upload to Thingiverse Print Paint
