Crazy Cart Union

I can still remember the audi union type C race car in my first concept car design book about 30 years ago. It looked so simple but extremely elegant. I couldn't turn my eyes away from it. Since this challenge was announced, I was thinking that maybe I can somehow make it back on the road again. After trying different ways of mimicking this classic race car, I ended up with keeping some symbolic elements such as the front air intake, traditional dashboard, and seat with small headrest. For the racing version, it seems to be a classic way of labeling number at the front. However, to match the stylish shape, there were several modifications to the original Crazy Cart design. I made a four-bar linkage mechanism for the side drift-control bar. This modification shifted and straightened up the handle, which makes it look more like the brake appeared in most old race cars. The other modifications, including extended footrest and gas pedal and tilted steering wheel, help reduce the knee height, ease the access to the steering wheel and eventually shape into a classic race car. The other challenge was making the design still looks fun in driving indoor and outdoor. Instead of designing a slim and aerodynamically efficient shape, I ended up with minimizing the size and rounding the shape to keep the agility and maneuverability so that it is still drivable in the hallway or on the sidewalk.
