Crutch Tip Rubber Foot Adapter

Crutch Tip Rubber Foot Adapter

thingiverse

This is a printable adapter part to help repair and beef-up the rubber "foot" (or tip) on a typical set of crutches. Not sure why manufacturers of crutches want their product to end up in a landfill because something so simple breaks so easily, but this is meant to help defeat that planned "disposability." **I would also like for this to counteract a tiny bit of the obnoxious, wasteful, bordering-on-insurance-fraud, needless consumption that starts with a healthcare provider asking "Why don't you just get a new set of crutches? Your insurance pays for most of it anyway."** The included stl file is sized for the crutches we got last time someone twisted or sprained something and fits a Home Depot, "Everbilt" brand Rubber Leg Tip - 1 1/4" size. (SKU 827121). The fender washers that fit on the bottom of the printed part, inside the Rubber Leg Tip, should make it close to impossible for the crutch post to punch through the bottom. The washers can also be found at Home Depot: outside diameter 1 1/4" & inside diameter 3/16". Including the OpenSCAD source file in case you want to tweak the dimensions to fit your, possibly slightly different, set of crutches.
