Cup Chess - Board Game

A friend made this game and showed me how to play a few years ago. I can't remember where the game came from or what the actual name of the game is. Have fun with the colors of the pieces! As long as they're two different colors, you can use whatever you like. I have included two ways to print the board. One way is a 16"x16" full board, which you could theoretically print of you had a large enough printer. The other way to do it is by printing two of each of the board corners I have included, which are 8"x8" instead. This will fit most printers. You could make the board out of anything you like, really. It's perfectly possible to make one out of plywood, which would be cool in its own regard. Let me know how you made your board! Each side starts with one small dome piece (the king), three medium dome pieces (bishops) and five large dome pieces (rooks). The king can move up or down one level at a time, or may slide one space either direction on the same level he is currently on. The bishops can move up and down as many levels as they want, traveling in a straight line parallel to the edge of the board. If the bishop moves up or down and there is no more room for it to move up or down (the next square would be another square on the same level) then it may not move further. The rooks can only move up or down one level at a time, but may move along the same level they are currently on as many spaces as you wish (the 90 degree turn is still allowed. the can move from the furthest position on one side of a level to the opposite in a single turn.) There are no knights in this game, pieces cannot "jump" over other pieces. You may capture an opponent's piece only if it is directly below yours in the level below. That is, they may only capture if the piece they are capturing is in line parallel to the edge of the board. Diagonal captures are not allowed, so the eight squares diagonally from each king are somewhat of safe havens for pieces. You can use this to your advantage to protect squares and prevent your opponent from advancing. Bishops, who can move any number of levels up and down, are the only piece that can capture an opponent's piece from more than one level away. Capturing a piece takes a turn, and your piece is placed where your opponent's formerly was. Like in regular chess, the objective is in the kings. If one player moves a piece into position over an opponent's king, that player must move their king out of "check" or capture the piece threatening their king. Unlike normal chess, kings can "check" other kings because a king on a higher level cannot be threatened back by the other king on the lower level. If you put your opponent in a position where their king cannot move out of danger, you win the game by checkmate. The other way to win the game is to take your king on a long journey to the opposite corner than he started on. If your king reaches the other corner of the board, the highest elevation square other than the one he started on, you win the game by taking the throne of your opponent. Be careful to protect your own throne square as well! Feedback is always welcome. If you know where this game comes from please let me know! Happy creating!
