Problem #1: When I'm in my car, my phone always seems to find it's way into the cup holder. Unfortunately, this means whatever nastiness resides in the cup holder finds it's way onto my phone. Problem #2: My phone isn't charging when I throw it into the cup holder. Solution: Create a phone dock that sits in my cup holder that charges my phone. After-The-Fact-Problem: My Android phone doesn't go into car mode when I dock it into my Cup Holder Phone Dock. After-The-Fact-Solution: Put an NFC sticker on the dock's back rest, and write an Android app that puts the phone into "car mode" whenever the tag is detected. Note: This dock is for a Galaxy Nexus, but you can adapt it for any phone if you have the OpenSCAD chops! Instructions You can download the source, updates, etc from GitHub at git://github.com/rvarner/cupHolderDock.git FYI, I built this with the ToM + MK7 + HBP and used the following Print-O-Matic settings: Nozzle Heat: 225 HBP Heat: 115 of Walls: 0 Infill: 15% (feel free to experiment) Layer height: .32 mm Speed: 35 mm/s Open the .scad file in OpenSCAD and make sure: a) Your micro USB plug matches the dimensions of the plug hole. You may consider making the plug hole slightly smaller than the plug for a snug, glue-free fit. b) The cylinder radius matches that of your car. Mine is a 2012 Jeep Cherokee c) The phone dimensions match your phone (this is for a Galaxy Nexus, but you can adapt to fit any phone) Generate the .STL Center in ReplicatorG Print Put it in your car.
