This is an asset that I modeled and UVed in Maya and textured in Photoshop for the 2018 Regional Emmy winning “Venture Class Launch Services” film to help NASA’s Launch Services Program in promoting a then upcoming class of rockets. Our team was tasked with creating a totally CG film largely dedicated to showing the history of NASA. I requested to be assigned the Curiosity Rover as I figured it to be the most difficult model and, therefore, a strong piece to showcase on my reel. I used several reference images to try to get every detail as accurate as I could because I recognized this was a very real and recognizable object and any incaccuracy would detract from the final film. Additionally, I looked at several videos as the “head”, “arm”, turret, “legs” and wheels all had to be able to be rigged to move the way the rover actually moves in real life.
