Make custom curtain rods! These brackets are designed to hold 1/2 inch steel electrical conduit that you cut to fit your window. Instructions You can typically get this type of conduit in the electrical department of a big box home store. Home Depot had it for $2 for a 10 ft length. Don't use copper plumbing pipe; it's too expensive and heavy. You'll need a pipe cutter to cut the rod to length. Search for "mini pipe cutter" for an example of a small, cheap cutter that will do the job. Harbor Freight has one for $5. You will also want to clean the rod and maybe spray paint it to fit your decor. Print out two of the brackets and screw into the walls above (or beside) the window molding. Two brackets were plenty for me with an 8 ft span, but you might want a third in the middle if you plan on using heavy blackout curtains. (I used 25% infill and it is plenty strong enough. I think the bar would bend or the screws would pull before the plastic) Also be sure you use long enough screws and drywall inserts if you can't find a stud/header. I attached mine with the bottom of the bracket resting on the molding so that it was all easily level. To add the finishing touch, design and print out finials for the ends! If you do, Please share! (I don't know what the metric equivalent would be for everywhere else. If someone could supply me with an OD measurement from a European equivalent, I'll upload a metric version.)
