Customizable Bolt Blank for Cutting in CAD

Customizable Bolt Blank for Cutting in CAD

thingiverse

A parameterisable SCAD file for generating blank nuts and/or bolts based on the maximum standard tolerances outlined for metric hex bolts. I built this file to let me easily produce bolts with Hex heads for use in some of my other CAD designs. Essentially all variables can be adjusted to account for material tolerances. A few points that may be worth noting: Bolt Length by default is defined as double the diameter of the hex bolt unless you set it manually (by multiplier or manually in millimetres). Once changed in the Customizer - if you need a different/known length on the bolts etc. - you will have automatically overridden the multiplier setting and it will not be taken into account unless the manual setting is taken back to zero first. Tolerance is best set at about 0.5mm (+) above the standard sizing to account for shrinkage - I've found this gives a good friction fit with ABS but requires no post work. I used this setting when embedding parts mid-print and it worked very well.
