OpenSCAD cookie cutter generator This is our cookie form generator based on OpenSCAD. You can generate a cookie form from basically all .svg or .ai files contianing path data. Unfortunately its not possible to use this generator with the Makerbot Customizer since its not possible to include uploaded files. Please see the instructions page for a detailled how to. Instructions 1. Third party software To make your own cookie form, you need two open source programs: OpenSCAD (http://www.openscad.org) Inkscape (http://inkscape.org) Inkscape to OpenSCAD converter you can find here or here You can download them for free from the websites we mentioned. 2. File compatiblity Inkscape is compatible with a lot of file format, including .svg and .ai. Just make sure your file does not contain any background information since this script only can handle the paths of your logo. You can test this by dragging the logo outside the page. If you can see the page border, everything is okay: Correct: Wrong: 3. Converting to .scad To convert your data to .scad, just place it in the center of your open inkscape document. Then go to Extensions -> Generate from Path -> Paths to OpenSCAD. Set height to 1,00 and Smoothing to 0,2. After this, just enter a output file path (for example: B: oolbox_logo.scad and press Apply. After this a small dialog will appear and disappear when the export process is done (beware: this is sometimes so fast, that you only a recognize "something blinked"). 4. Creating the cookie form Just download the cookie-form.zip from this page and unzip it. You will get a _template.scad you will never need to modify and a toolbox.scad. For each cookie form you want to create just copy the toolbox.scad. We recommend to put the file you just generated with Inkscape in the prvious step in the logos subfolder. After you have done this, just open your copy of the toolbox.scad. You just have to modify the path in the third line of this file. For example, if you named your file new-logo.scad, you have to change the path to logos/new-logo.scad. To test your configuration, just hit F5 or F6 to get a nice rendered preview. Once you hit F6 you will also be able to export the form as .stl file to print it. It should look like this: 5. Polish You may play with the parameters to get a perfect result. Please remember: This is kinda work in progress since there are millions of logos and we can't cover them all. But since we use our generator, we got no problems with logos we tested. A short description of the parameters: connectorHeight Sometimes it is hard to get the dough out of the form. The connector is our try to fix this issue. If drawConnector is true, the code is generating some holes on the sides to allow you to access the dough in a easier way. As an alternative you can just use enough flour. This variable will define the height of your connector. drawConnector If set to true the script will a draw a connector as described above. height The height your form will have at all. Does not affect the stamp area. hullCutout Sometimes you can set this to false but in the most cases true will do the job. If false the script will turn the form into a full cutout form. See this examples: hullCutout=false: hullCutout=true: hullCutoutScale You may have to adjust the scale of the area that is beeing cut out. hullCutoutTranslate Sometimes you have to move the cutout to get a better result. hullScale Here you can adjust the hull scale. You should adjust this until you get a very small hull. A small hull makes it easier to but out the dough. size Here you can adjust the size of the form. This does not really matter since you can resize it also in your 3d printer software. padding If you have set drawConnector to true, you can use this setting to adjust the beginning of the connector. 6. Export If you have configured your form in a way you like it, just hit F6, follwed by File -> Export -> Export as STL.... The generated stl file is compatible with every 3d printer. 7 Have fun! We love to see your remixes!
