Project Statement: This model is meant to organize a person's desk. It can hold pens, pencils, and any other office supplies a person needs. This will allow a person not to franticly search for that pencil or calculator they need while in a zoom class. It will make getting class work done easier and faster because all of the office supplies are in a centralized place. I have included some modular parts that can be printed and added on. One of the examples is a tape dispenser, it can be added onto the side of the print. Another is a USB drive holder. These can be added to the print. If you want the hooks to be shorter, you can easily modify the STL file or sand it down. I would use glow in the dark filament This is because last night, I had an idea about a cable organizer, link attached. I couldn't find a pen and pad. If it was made of glow in the dark filament, it would have been easy to find. I think this could apply to all of the designs in this challenge so I hope the other contestants read this. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4621488 My goal is to make a desk organizer for any person who needs one. I hope a person will get a lot of use out of it and help a person achieve all of their goals. Issues I Came Across: One of the big issues was, making it print without supports while optimizing storage space. I wanted to make an organizer that could hold everything a person needs while being easy to print. I used triangles with an angle of less than 45 degrees to hold and act as a shelf. To try and optimize space, a made the walls strong enough where it can be sturdy but thin enough where it is easy to print and maximizes storage space. Redesign: If I could re-design this, I would make the walls a little thinner and add more shelves in the front area. I would use the shelves for things like note pads and then use that as a base. If I had more of this a person would be able to customize the number and size of each shelf. I would also include a specific space for USB drives and SD cards. I also want to make it more modular and customizable. I would want to make more attachments Help of a 3D Printer. Being able to print this at home would have been very helpful. I would be able to change the design more often and easily be able to print it. Printing it, would let me see what the design would look like and how it work. The design of the Makerbot Sketch is incredible. Having a heated build plate allows for proper adhesion to occur more often. It also has a removable, flexible build plate. This will make removing the print easier without risk of it breaking. This will not only make the printing easier but it will help the environment. PLA plastic takes about 80 years to decompose in the environment. Having less failed prints would minimize PLA from entering the environment in the first place. Having a 3D printer at school would be helpful, not only to myself. When many people are entering high school, they haven't thought about their future interests. A 3d printer would expose them to many of the element of STEM. This will nurture a love of the subjects from early on. A student who loves STEM could go on, after college and do amazing things to help the world whether it is is science, technology, engineering, or math.
